Week Commencing 17th January 2005
The Pickett Trophy
The Pickett Trophy is Swindon's main team handicap event, held as a
knock-out tournament over a number of months. Each player is given a
rating based on their performance in the league (the lower the rating
the better the player). The ratings for the team are added up to give a
handicap for the night, and then any points won are added to the
handicap to give the final scores.
Sanford Link E 445, St. Saviours A 452
Made up of Division 1 players Sandy Steele-Davies, Ray Hughes and Terry
Parkins, St.Saviours A looked in complete control until the fifth
game when Sanford's Jacob Holland of Division 2 gained an impressive 31
points against Sandy (13, 18) in the fifth game. Suddenly it looked like
a win for Sanford may be possible after all, but the moment was soon to
pass when Terry Parkins beat Division 4's Tim Arbon giving away just 4
points. Sanford's John Lewis did well averaging around 14 points per
game, and Arbon got 12 against both Steeele-Davies and Hughes, but this
still left a tall order of 30 points for Jacob Holland to get off of
Terry Parkins in the last set, which turned out to be just 8 too many.
