Swindon Table Tennis: League Update For 2005, Swindon Table Tennis decided to re-format the league into 3 divisions of 12 teams, in order to give every player more games and in a lot of cases, more of a challenge. But was it the right decision? At the time, those at the top of the old Division 2 thought they were no match against teams in Division 1, and those in the old Division 4 felt they would struggle against what was the bottom of Division 3. Has this been borne out? Well thankfully all teams have won at least one match so far this season, (apart from one which has a number of postponed matches - but even they have achieved a draw), so with no whitewashes it appears to have been a success. 2006 New Year's Resolution Although the new league format is great for experienced players of previous divisions, it has made things a little more difficult for newcomers to get into table tennis due to the higher standard of play. So the Committee's New Years' Resolution has been to make it easier for people to get into the game. Swindon Table Tennis are starting a new competition on January 31st, 2006. Aimed at people who have never played table tennis in a league before, it's ideal for beginners (both children and adults) who would like to take up table tennis, and social players (those who play in social clubs, garages etc.) The New Starters Division costs just £6 to join and that will give you many weeks of table tennis in organised games, with trophies for the best players. The matches will be played every Tuesday night, 7:15-9:15pm, at Churchfields Upper School, Salcombe Grove, Swindon. For further information, please contact Tim Arbon on 07749 713444. Closing date for entries is 24th January. Swindon Table Tennis League 2005/2006 - results to date:
