LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP RULES

(Numbered 9-17 as shown.  1-8 and 18-20 are to do with the Constitution and other matters.)

  1. All games will be governed by the Laws of Table Tennis as adopted by the ETTA. All matches will consist of the best of five games.

  2. Teams will consist of three players. The playing order will be as printed on the scorecard, unless agreed otherwise by both teams. One point will be awarded for each set won, making a maximum of ten points per match.

  3. The team in each division with the greatest number of points will be the winner of that division. In the event of a tie, the team with the most wins will be the champions. If this still results in a tied situation, the championship will be decided by a play off consisting of 9 singles events, arranged by the Committee. Players who participated in 50% or more of their team's possible matches will be eligible for the rankings trophies. There are two trophies per division – one for the highest average, and the other for the most games won. In the event of a tie on the most games won, the player with the highest average out of those tied will be the winner. In the event of a tie on the highest average, the player with the most games won out of those tied will be the winner.

  4. Players can only be registered for one team. Late registrations to be notified in writing to the League Secretary by the last day of January, or thereafter at the discretion of the Committee. All late registrations to be approved by the Committee prior to playing.

  5. For clubs entering more than one team, the players will be registered for the team in which they intend to play. Reserves to be drawn from a lower team. Any reserve who has played three times for a higher team will then become a registered member of that team. Players cannot play for a lower team than the one in which they are registered.

  6. All matches to be played on the correct date unless altered by mutual agreement. For any postponed or un-played match, the home team is responsible for informing the appropriate Results Secretary, within three days of the scheduled fixture, of circumstances causing non-fulfilment of fixture, and where possible the rearranged date. If matches remain unplayed at the completion date for League matches, the Committee will have the discretion to deduct points from the teams or otherwise adjudicate match results.

  7. Matches to commence by 7.30pm and two players from each team to arrive by 7.15pm, or up to 15 minutes later where prior notification has been given to the Committee that the venue is not regularly available at this time. The last player must arrive before 9.15pm.

  8. The scorecard supplied by the home team to be completed and signed by both captains and received by the appropriate Results Secretary within seven days.

  9. In general, at the end of the season the top two teams in each division will be promoted to the next higher division and the bottom two teams will be relegated. However, at the start of each season, the Committee will decide on the composition of each division based on team registration details, the previous season’s results and any other relevant factors.
